Objective: The continuous quality improvement in pain treatment shows that to measure the impact of creating a Postoperative Acute Pain Unit it is necessary to know the quality perceptions of the patients. The aim of the study is to investigate the suggestions given in the satisfaction questionnaires by the patients in 2002 and 2003.
Methods: The study was carried out using a satisfaction questionnaire model with demografic factors and Quality Indicators. This is a descriptive study about the patients’ suggestion section of the satisfaction questionnaires.
Results: A total of 1067 questionnaires were carried out in 2002 and 2003. In 44.4% of the questionnaires appear improvement suggestions, being the most frequent ones about more preoperative information of pain in 25.5%. The patients verify their satisfaction in the 37.4% of the suggestions.
Conclusions: The patients show their satisfaction about pain relief. They also ask for more preoperative information about pain, about its treatment and secondary effects, better coordination and speed in the medical actuation and to know the professionals’ names who are treating them.
